monthly moment // july 2015

It’s time for July’s Monthly Moment!  This is a community where you are encouraged to share a single photo – few words – capturing a moment from the month.  A simple, special moment that you want to pause and savor.

July was a great month for me.  It is my birthday month, after all! For the 4th I traveled to Portland, OR to meet up with some college friends and my one request was to find a good hike in the area.  We decided to venture out to Multnomah Falls and were totally surprised by the difficulty of the hike.  The hike itself is only 2.6 miles round-trip but the combination of the heat and elevation gain was pretty brutal.  Regardless, the views were worth the trek.  How lucky am I to have friends that will “brave the wild” with me??

What was your Monthly Moment?  Share below – the linkup will stay open until August 15th!

  1. Post your Monthly Moment on your own blog.  Posts from FB, Instagram, Twitter, etc. are welcome, too!
  2. Link back to this site so others can see your photo, too! You can use the button and the linkup (below) to connect with other bloggers. (Please note entries completely unrelated to the theme or linked to your homepage will be deleted.)
  3. Link up your posts on any day of the month.
  4. The most important rule!! Visit the person’s blog who linked up directly before you and leave them an encouraging/motivating comment.  This is such an important part of the linkup!  The purpose is to encourage each other and build a community.

For the month of May I picked an image from a memorial service honoring the the 147 students at the Garissa University College in Kenya and the 30 Ethiopian Christians whose lives were lost during attacks by the al-Shabaab and ISIS extremist groups, respectively.  This was a beautiful moment of unity and reflection.

Mood boards are intended to visually illustrate a specific design style.  Since I’m not a designer, I prefer to use mood boards as a visual tool to quickly share information and inspiration about a general idea and/or concept.  In an effort to provide a platform to share resources about wellness and it’s various dimensions, I’ve started cultivating a Wellness Community Board on Pinterest.

Some of my favorite pins so far:

pin 1pin 2pin 3

And one of my new favorite quotes:

Everyone is welcome to join this community board – just comment below or email me (vmroman18@gmail.com) to be invited to the group!  For my fellow bloggers out there, this board can also serve as an opportunity for you to shamelessly promote your own wellness posts or blogs by your favorite wellness idols.

If you aren’t sure what to pin, don’t be shy! Below are some topics/dimensions to guide you:

Physical
Health and Nutritional
Convention
Financial
Mental
Environmental
Social (media and otherwise)
Intellectual/Creative
Sexual
Emotional (intelligence and otherwise)
Career
Spiritual

Still not convinced? What if you knew infusing positivity in your surroundings can boost your happiness?  That’s right – the more positivity we experience/read/view on a daily basis, the happier we are : )

Happy pinning!

THE CIRCLE LINK-UP

monthly moment // april 2015

IMG_7281Hey you!  I am excited to share a linkup idea I’ve been toying with for awhile.  I’m calling it Monthly Moment, a community where you are encouraged to share a single photo – few words – capturing a moment from the month.  A simple, special moment that you want to pause and savor.

This month I chose an image of students taking a much-needed minute to relax at a leadership retreat. My students are generally very high-achieving  and put a lot of pressure on themselves to succeed so it was great seeing them take time to reflect and soak up the sun.

I’d love for you to join me and link up to your own Monthly Moment.  It’ll be a great way to make new friends from around the world and gain some motivation to practice mindfulness and reflect on positive experiences.

Here’s how it works:

try this // the reverse bucket list

I’ve always been cautious when it comes to bucket lists.  They are frequently recommended during big transitions: graduating, moving to a new home, getting a new job, etc.  I generally stay away from creating or following bucket lists because they don’t help me end relationships/transition well. Instead of slowing down to reflect on all I’ve accomplished, bucket lists highlight the items I have yet to achieve and they end up stressing me out!
